View of the city of Antigua, Guatemala with Volcan de Agua behind in Central America
Crossed perspectives of a painter and an archaeologist
A dialogue about 20 pre-Hispanic works from Guatemala, the "Heart of the Mayan World," a country to which they are both deeply attached. The works in question—whose number refers to a powerful Mayan numeric symbolism—were chosen for their power to evoke, fascinate and question.
Help Us promote Caribbean artists in the world
This project promotes Caribbean cultures through the convergence of disciplines, the arts, and archaeology, adding to the intersection of histories and regions, as well as the intersection of inspirations from the past and present, with the goal of fostering a wealth of creations. This project establishes a dialogue between contemporary art and that of the first inhabitants of the Caribbean. It is a focus of both Caribbean history and artistic inspirations, extending its memorial dimension, as a continuum, to the Americas. It allows for a cross-disciplinary approach, combining the approaches of an artist and an archaeologist, in a dialogue focusing on 20 pre-Hispanic and archaeological works from Guatemala, "Heart of the Mayan World." The works in question—whose number refers to a powerful Mayan numeral symbolism—were chosen for their power to evoke, fascinate, and question. They were produced in different regions: on the Pacific coast, in the highlands, and in the lowlands (in Quirigua, a World Heritage Site). Some are famous, while others are unknown to the general public. This project will be presented in a gallery in Paris between October and December 2025 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Overseas Territories.
